Meeting Yourselslf with Karen Schachter
”It's Your One Wild & Precious Life... How Do You Want To Live It?“ - Karen

What’s inside this episode?

On this episode Mia chats with Karen Schachter.

They dive into what it means to heal an eating disorder and come into a relationship with yourself, and then doing the same thing again as a busy mom.

Karen shares how we were not trained as girls to listen to ourselves, and how we end up on this treadmill of feeding other peoples’ expectations.

She talks about being a feeler instead of a judge, slowing down, sitting, tasting, and feeling pleasure.

Karen compares being in a woman’s body to living in the wild west. Karen talks about what it is to change your mindset to become a feeler, and how to shift to look inside yourself rather that the opinions of those around you.

She shares her favorite tools of slowing down and letting yourself experience pleasure. When we find our dialogue of loving kindness with our bodies, we are modeling that for our kids.

    Doable Changes

Practice Emotional Awareness. Take time each day to check in with your emotions and cultivate awareness of how you’re feeling. Allow yourself to fully experience and acknowledge your emotions, whether they’re positive or negative, without judgment. Tuning into your feelings allows you to better understand your needs and desires, and opens the door to experiencing more pleasure in life.

Engage in Sensory Eating. Shift your approach to eating by focusing on the sensory experience of food. Take the time to appreciate the colors, textures, aromas, and flavors of each bite, savoring the sensory pleasure that comes with nourishing your body. Mindful eating can enhance your enjoyment of food and cultivate a deeper connection to the experience of eating.

Cultivate Joyful Movement. Explore different forms of movement that bring you joy and pleasure, whether it’s dancing, hiking, swimming, or practicing yoga. Prioritize activities that make you feel good and uplift your spirits, rather than focusing solely on exercise for the sake of fitness. By embracing joyful movement, you not only enhance your physical well-being but also tap into the pleasure of moving your body in ways that bring you happiness and fulfillment.
